Jobs in London

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Westminster, London, United Kingdom (ForbiddenLondon.com) August 16, 2011:

1000 Jobs for Young Entrepreneurs – Scarier than Cameron’s Gangs?

London event planning, nightlife and concierge company Forbidden London today announced 1000 new part-time job opportunities through which young people can learn to become self-employed entrepreneurs in London’s West End.

Not all the jobs the young people will be doing are glamorous.

In surprisingly good news for London’s economy, after weeks that saw huge losses on the FTSE and mass rioting, Forbidden London Clubs today announced 1000 new part time and full time job opportunities in Central London for young people.

Forbidden London leader James WJ Wilson was jubilant on announcing his organisation’s expansion:

“It’s been a bad few weeks for London and we are delighted to be delivering some good news for young people in London.

We have up to 1000 vacancies we wish to fill by December with bright, enthusiastic people eager to play a part in delivering the best events and nightlife to Londoners, and visitors to London, as possible. The West End has taken a hit over the past few years, like the rest of the World. We’re going to try and put the sparkle back and we’ve got more faith in young people than anyone, they didn’t get us in to this mess!

We see the reality and the opening, where politicians seemingly do not; times are tough for many talented young people – particularly young Women – and so we feel it is important to lead and do our best to provide chances and choices where we can, at a time when few people outside the elite can afford to try and be leaders in our society.

The introduction of the smoking ban in nightlife venues has done untold damage to the industry and that in term has had a big social cost. This has been compounded by the large supermarkets’, and their retail equivalents’, stranglehold on the high-street that has led to less variety of work being available for semi-skilled and unskilled labour. Obviously the appalling behaviour of those trusted to keep the economy in peak condition and school the young has been the most significant factor.”

Tesco is currently the countries largest employer with more than 250,000 employees although they have been criticised in the past for creaming record profits off the back of employees working at the minimum wage. Forbidden London is a minnow in comparison generating a turnover of less than £250,000 in their first year of trading but they still intend to recruit on a massive scale when much larger companies are culling staff at a time that is largely agreed to be a point of potential collapse in the World’s economic systems.

We want to offer thousands of people an alternative to stacking shelves or scraping by without the things they are told they should have by the media every moment of everyday. I can tell them we promise that as we grow they will too. We’re basing our business plan on the theoretical physics of networks which is unusual but with more mainstream thinking seemingly flawed, if you feel like I feel why not?

I don’t know if we can do this; we are currently a small organisation, but we’re all committed to making a difference for as many people as we can by offering them a chance to taste a new future, earn some money and be part of something new and completely different.

With a little luck, with a little investment, maybe we’ll have 300,000 employees in a few years, maybe 3 million. David Cameron keeps banging on about entrepreneurship in between spates of demonising the youths. We’re going to teach thousands of young people how to make money without large corporations; perhaps that will be scarier than gangs.’”

If you would like to apply for one of the 1000 job vacancies available with Forbidden London you can see more information about the positions online by visiting the Forbidden London website:

Stop & Search – London Riots

TUC March Disorder Appeal

Detectives from Operation Brontide have today, Monday 4 April released CCTV footage and CCTV stills of people they want to identify following the serious disorder and violence committed in the West End on Saturday 26 March. This disorder followed the peaceful TUC March in central London.

During the disorder it is believed groups dressed all in black covered their faces in order to avoid identification and ultimately evade justice for their criminal actions. The footage released today shows one group changing from their black clothing into more colourful clothing which enabled them to disappear into the crowds in the area.

Officers would like to identify those changing clothes in the footage in order to speak to them about their actions during the day of the march.

The vast majority of people that came to London to protest did so peacefully and worked with the event organisers and engaged with the stewards and police officers placed there for their own safety.

Detective Chief Superintendent Matthew Horne, leading the investigation, said: “We are working tirelessly to identify those responsible for the appalling acts of criminal behaviour on the day of the TUC March. The video footage and related photographs released today clearly show the lengths that individuals will go to in order to hide their identities; they are sought in connection with conspiring with others to cause criminal damage.

“The vast majority of people who came to London to protest did so peacefully and worked with the event organisers and police officers. Others however, abused their right to protest and worked together to cause violence, damage and disorder.”

Stop and Searches Conducted Near Olympic Site

A dog handler working as part of the security team at the Olympic Stadium in East London was arrested last week on suspicion of possessing explosives.

There were numerous other Stop & Search procedures carried out in relation to explosives, used as live training aids, which are available to G4 Security employees working as dog handlers.

The Metropolitan Police said the arrest was made by Olympic Site Support Unit (OSSU) officers after a tip-off.

Stops & Searches Fall After European Court Ruling

The Guardian reports…

The number of stops and searches by police under controversial counterterrorism laws has fallen sharply since the government curtailed the scope of the powers.

There were 45,932 stops and searches by police in England, Scotland and Wales under section 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000 in the year ended September 2010 – a 77% reduction on the previous 12 months, when there were 200,775, according to Home Office figures.

The use of the section 44 powers fell most dramatically after July 2010, when the home secretary, Theresa May, scrapped their use against individuals, in line with a European court ruling that they were unlawful. Between July and September last year the powers were used 666 times, a 98% reduction on the same period in 2009, when they were used 30,070 times.

Before July 2010, officers could stop and search anyone in a designated area without having to show reasonable suspicion. The European court of human rights ruled that the powers were unlawful because they were too broadly drawn and lacked sufficient safeguards to protect civil liberties. Since July the powers have been limited to only allow the police to search vehicles, and officers must have grounds for suspecting they are being used in connection with terrorism.

Stop & Search Powers Illegal

The BBC reports…

Police powers to use terror laws to stop and search people without grounds for suspicion are illegal, the European Court of Human Rights has ruled.

The Strasbourg court has been hearing a case involving two people stopped near an arms fair in London in 2003.

It said that Kevin Gillan and Pennie Quinton’s right to respect for a private and family life was violated.

Home Secretary Alan Johnson said he was disappointed with the ruling and would appeal against it.

Chief Constable Craig Mackey of the Association of Chief Police Officers said officers would continue to use stop and search powers while the appeal was pending.

‘Discriminatory use’

Section 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000 allows the home secretary to authorise police to make random searches in certain circumstances.

But the European Court of Human Rights said the pair’s rights under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights had been violated.

The court said the stop and search powers were “not sufficiently circumscribed” and there were not “adequate legal safeguards against abuse”.

It also concluded that “the risks of the discriminatory use of the powers” were “a very real consideration”.
